Nottingham (Bulwell) - Parish of St Mary the Virgin and All Souls

St Mary the Virgin and All Souls, Highbury Road, Bulwell, Nottingham NG6 9AD. The memorial comprises a bronze tablet inscribed with the names of those who died and a free standing ashlar Celtic cross with octagonal shaft on square pedestal with inscription and chamfered plinth. Grade II listed. The dedication on the pedestal of the cross reads, 'In grateful memory of the men of this parish who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1918. Their names are placed on the tablet outside the west wall of the church and live for ever in our memory.' The memorial and tablet cost £804 and were unveiled and dedicated on New Year's Eve 1922 by the Chief Constable Lieutenant Colonel Brooks. Following the Second World War steps were installed in front of the church to improve to access to the church. It was suggested that the names of those who died could be inscribed on the front of each steps. However, the names were inscribed on a tablet which was placed on the church wall.
