Clarence Leonard Harvey was born in 1899 at Bulwell he was the son of tje late Robert and Maria Harvey née Cooper

His father Robert was born in 1861 at Earl Soham, Suffolk, he died in 1911 at Mansfield he was 50 yrs old, his mother Maria Cooper was born in 1876 at Hucknall, they were married on 28th August 1895 at St Johns Church, Bulwell, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 196 Warsop Vale,Shirebrrok, Mansfield, Maria Harvey is had of the family a widow she is 37 yrs old she is living with her children, Frank 14 ys a coal miner pony driver, Charles Leonard 11yrs, Herbert 6 yrs, Beatrice 4 yrs and Fred 2 yrs of age.

Military history

Private Clarence Leonard Harvey enlistd at Nottingham whilst residing at Shirebrook, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action, 17th July 1916, during the German shelling of the trenches to the South East of Trones Wood, near Guillemont, France during the Battle of the Somme.

Buried: Guillemont Road Cemetery, Guillemont, France. Plot 5. Row L. Grave 10.
