Family history

William Thomas Burton was born in 1891 at Desborough, Northamptonshire, he was the son of Charles William Burton a colliery labourer above ground and his wife Sarah Burton née Frier, of 32 Chatham Street, Bulwell.

His father Charles William was born in 1872 at Woottton, Bedfordshire, his mother Sarah Frier was born in 1869 at Burton Overy, Leicestershire, they were married on 22nd March 1890 at Desborough, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 32 Chatahm Street, Bulwell, Charles William 39 yrs is a colliery labourer above ground, he is living with his wife Sarah 43 yrs and their 7 children including William Thomas 19 yrs a pot labourer.

Military history

Private William Thomas Burton enlisted at Kettering whilst residing at Bulwell, he served with the 9th battalion East Surrey Regiment he died of wounds on 18th June 1917. he is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery Grave Reference: XV F 13
