Family History

William Tomlinson (junior) was born in 1895 at Nottingham and was the son of William Tomlinson (senior) a foreman Hosiery trimmer and Elizabeth Ann Tomlinson née Gadsby of 520, Vernon Rd, Old Basford, Nottingham. His father William (senior) was born in 1867 at Basford, his mother Elizabeth Ann Gadsby was born in 1868 in Derby, they were married in 1888 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 3 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their other surviving child was Edith b1891 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 197 Vernon Road, Basford and are shown as William Tomlinson 44 yrs a foreman hosiery trimmer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth Ann 43 yrs and their children Edith 20 yrs a hosiery mender and William 16 yrs a hosiery trimmer.

Military History

Lance Corporal William Tomlinson enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Old Basford, he served with the 1/6th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action on 3rd October 1918 and is buried in Bellicourt British Cemetery 6.I.1
