His father John William (1867) and mother Emily (1872) were born at Lambley. Married in 1892, they had nine children, eight surviving infancy - William b.1893, Mary b.1894, John b.1896, Charles b.1897, Margaret b.1900, Susannah b.1901, Lucy b.1902 and Walter b.1904. In 1911 they lived at Lodge Farm, Bulcote. John William managed a farm, William and John were labourers. Also living at the address was Elizabeth Stapleton, aged 76, Charles’s widowed mother.
Charles Arthur Stapleton enlisted at Lowdham. He was killed in action on 27 April 1918 and was buried in Beuvry Communal Cemetery Extension )grave reference: 3.B.13).
