Family History

Frank Thraves was born in 1892 at Caythorpe and was the son of Richard Thraves a farmers son of 'Holly Cottage' Gunthorpe Nottingham, and the late Ellen Thraves née Allwood . His father Richard was born in 1862 at East Bridgford and his mother Ellen Allwood was born in 1862 at Caythorpe, she died in 1899 aged 37 yrs the death was registered in the Oldham registration district, they were married in 1883 and they went on to have 5 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Minnie b1886, Horace b1887, Richard b1890 and Frank b1892, all were born in Caythorpe. In the 1911 census his father is living at Gunthorpe with his widowed father Thomas, they are shown as Thomas Thraves 80 yrs a widowed farmer, he is living with his son Richard 49 yrs a widow and farmers son working on farm. In the 1911 census Frank is in the Army, he is serving with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters and is shown as being 19 years of age, single and a private soldier. He is living at Crownhill Barracks, Devon.

Military History

Private Frank Thraves enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Gunthorpe and served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 4th November 1914 and died of wounds on 20th June 1915 whilst serving with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters and is buried at La Gorgue Communal Cemetery, France. Plot 1.
