Frank George Hardwick Greaves was the son of Frank John L. Greaves and Mary Eliza Hardwick who married in the Southwell area of Nottinghamshire in 1894. Their children included: Frank George Hardwick (b.1896), Violet Mary (b.1900), Thomas Edward (b.1903), Geoffrey Ernest (b.1905), Lilian May (b.1908) and Marguerite H. (b.1910). The family lived at: 15 Cope Street, Hyson Green [C.1901]; 18 Osborne Street, Radford [C.1911]; 8 Ben Street, Radford [n.e.p.24.12.1917 & CWGC]. Frank John L. Greaves, who was an elementary school teacher, died at Nottingham in 1912, aged 41. His widow, Mary Eliza, died at Nottingham, aged 67, in 1939.
Sergeant Frank George Greaves, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 37th Battalion Machine Gun Corps, he died of wounds on 22nd December 1917, and is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
In memoriam published 22nd December 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “GREAVES. – In loving memory of Frank George Greaves, who died of wounds received at Cambria [sic] December 22nd, 1917. Till we meet again. – Loving mother, brothers, sisters. “GREAVES. – Sgt. Frank Greages, late M.G.C., died of wounds December 22nd, 1917.
