Family History

Frank Lawrence Starbuck was born in 1890 in Cropwell Butler, Nottinghamshire, and was the son of George a labourer and Emma Starbuck née Hickling. His father George was born in 1857 and his mother Emma Hickling was born in 1857 both were born at they were married on 11th June 1878 in Lowdham and went on to have the following children, William b1879 Easthorpe, Thomas b1881 Easthorpe, George b1884 Langar, John b1886 Cropwell, Alfred 1889 Cotgrave and Frank 1890 at Cropwell. Shortly after Frank’s birth his father George died in 1891 aged 46 yrs and Emma remarried in 1893 to George Wade of Barnstone, Nottinghamshire, with whom she had another son, Samuel Butler Wade. Samuel would also serve in World War One Frank married Emily Howard (born 6th January 1891) in 1915 , their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration District, they lived at Eastwood Cottages, Bingham Road, Radcliffe-on-Trent. Commencing 4th June 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Frank Lawrence Starbuck enlisted at Bingham, he initially served with the service number 44772 in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He later transferred to serve with C Company, 2nd battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 12th October 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Theipval Memorial.
