Ernest Henry Frreman was born on 14th September 1896 at Gunthorpe and was the son of John Henry a joiner and the late Annie Freeman née Fisher of 'The Cedars' Gunthorpe. His father John Henry was born in 1855 at Guntorpe and his mother Annie Fisher was born in 1855 also at Gunthorpe, (she died in 1898) they were married on 11th December 1877 at Lowdham and went on to have the following children, Percy b1879, Alice b1883, Beatrice Mary b1888, John Cecil b1891, Lilian May b1893, Ernest Henry b1896 all were born in Gunthorpe. In the 1911 census the family are living at the Cedars Gunthorpe and are shown as John Henry 53 yrs a carpenter, he is living with his children, Beatrice Mary 22 yrs a teacher, John Cecil 19 yrs a student, Lilian May 17 yrs no occupation listed and Ernest Henry 14 yrs a scholar. His probate was proven with will on 11th June 1918 at Nottingham and shows him as John Henry Freeman, The Cedars, Gunthorpe Sergeant in H.M.Army died 21st March 1918 in France , his effects of £76. 16 shillings and 3 pence were left to John Henry Freeman joiner (his father).

Military History

Sergeant Ernest Henry Freeman enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'C' battery, 152nd Brigade Royal Field Artillery . He was killed in action on 21st March 1918 and is buried at Wancourt British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. 8.A.11
