David Swinton Edward was born 7th November 1886 in Brechin, Scotland and was the son of Daniel Ames Edward and Margaret Laird Edward née Swinton of 66 Kimbolton Ave, Nottingham. His father Daniel Ames Edward was born in 1860 in Forfar and his mother Margaret Laird Swinton was born in 1858 in Main, Forfar, they were married on 1st January 1886 in Main, Forfar and went on to have the following children, David Swinton b1886 Brechin, Euphemia b1889 Middleton, Yorks, James Swinton b1892 Nottingham, Isabella b1897 Nottingham and Jeannie Swinton b1896 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 66 Kimbolton Ave, Nottingham and are shown as Daniel Ames 50 yrs a drapers cutter,he is living with his wife Margaret Swinton 53 yrs and their children Euphemia 22 yrs a cutter, James Swinton 19 yrs a joiner, Isabella 18 yrs a machinist and Jeannie 15 yrs a clerk. David Married his wife Alice Gertrude Cuffley in 1915 in Nottingham, they lived at 411 Alfreton Road, Nottingham he was an electrician
Private David Swinton Edward served with the Army Service Corps , he died on 10th January at 40th Casualty clearing station, Salonika of pneumonia and is buried in Sofia War Cemetery, Bulgaria (grave ref. 3.C.12).
Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 16 January 1919: 'Edward. At Salonika on the 10th inst. of pneumonia, David Swinton, electrician Motor Transport Army Service Corps. Husband of Alice Gertrude (nee Caffery) of 411(sic) Alfreton Road. Eldest son of DA Edward and Mrs Edward, 8 Kimbolton Street.'
