Family History

Harold Woodward was born in 1891 at Bulwell he was the son of Thomas Woodward a coal miner and Mary Hannah Woodward née Wood of 34 Coventry Road, Bulwell, Nottingham. His father Thomas was born in 1857 at Bulwell, his mother Mary Hannah Wood was born in 1860 at Bulwell, they were married in 1877 their marriage was registered in the Basford registration district. They had 8 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, In the 1911 census the family are living 34 Coventry Road, Bulwell, Thomas 54 yrs is a coal miner he is living with his wife Mary Hannah 51 yrs and their children, Harold 21 yrs a grocers assistant, Lewis 18 yrs a coal miner ganger and Alice 11 yrs a scholar. Harold married his wife Nellie Bloor in 1915 at Nottingham, they lived at Blenhiem Villa, Commercial Road, Bulwell, commencing 7th May 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Rifleman Harold Woodward enlisted at Nottingham, he served wit the 9th battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he was killed in action on 15th September 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
