Family History

George Edward Webb was born in 1898 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late Raymond Webb a groom and Abigail Webb née Smith of 60 Repton Road, Bulwell, his father Raymond was born in 1865 at Painswick, Gloucestershire, he died in 1910 aged 45 yrs, his mother Abigail Smith was born in 1867 at Kinoulton, Nottinghamshire, they were married on 8th January 1891 at the Basford registrary office , they went on to have two further children, Fred Ralph born 1895 and William Raymond born 1892. In the 911 census his mother Abigail is living at 145 Logan Street, Bulwell, she is 44 yrs of age, she is living with her sons, William Raymond 19 yrs a van man, Fred Ralph 16 yrs a warehouse man and Geoge Edward 13 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private George Edward Webb enlisted on 24th June 1916 at Nottingham, he was 19 yrs and 39 days old, he was living at 145 Logan Street, Bulwell, he was a hosiery worker, his next of kin was his mother Abigail of the same address, he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilised for war 3rd April 1917 and posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, service number 83327. He was transferred to the Royal West Kent Regiment on 21st July 1917 when he landed in France. He was killed in action on 29th September 1918 and is buried at Villers Hill British Cemetery, Villers-Guislain, France.
