Family History

James Fennel Warner was born in 1891 at Bulwell, he was the son of David a colliery banksman and his first wife the late Lucy Ann Kirk, of 313 Quarry Road, Bulwell, his father David was born in Bedinfield, Suffolk in 1848, his mother Lucy Ann Kirk was born in 1858 at Bulwell she died in 1897 aged 39 yrs, they were married on 9th July 1878 they had 6 children. Following his first wife death he remarried Hannah Dodsley born 1861 at Bulwell, they were married on 23rd September 1899 at Nottingham, they had a further child Edith born 1901. In the 1911 census the family are living at 313 Quarry Road, Bulwell, David 63 yrs is a colliery banksman he is living with his second wife Hannah 50 yrs and their children, Edith Warner 9 yrs, James Fennel 20 yrs a coal miner, George Dodsley 19 yrs a coal miner and Mary Ann Dodsley 16 yrs a lace worker. James Fennel married Annie Horton (born 5th October 1890) on 4th November 1911 at St Johns Church, Bulwell, they lived at 313 Quarry Road, Bulwell and later lived at 63 Clarence Street, Southall, Middlesex and had two children, Grace born 31st March 1912 and David William born 10th September 1914,. Commencing 4th April 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week. His widow re married 31st December 1917 to Edward Ellis.

Military History

Private James Fennel Warner enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Bulwell, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters he was killed in action, on 17th July 1916, during the German shelling of the trenches, to the southeast of Trones Wood, France, during the Battle of the Somme. Buried: Guillemont Road Cemetery, Guillemont, France. Plot 6. Row C. Grave 1.
