Albert Twells was born in 1897 at Nottingham, he was the son of John a coal miner and Jane Mary Twells née Birks and the brother of Elizabeth Mary, Baden Ernest, George Samuel, Hilda Violet and Mabel Clara Twells.of 116 Minerva Street, Bulwell, Nottingham. His father was born in 1868 at Cavendish Bridge, his mother Jane Mary Birks was born in 1873 at Newstead, they were married on 17th May 1890 at St John’s Church, Bulwell they had 9 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 they lived at 116 Minerva Street Bulwell Nottingham John 43 yrs is a coal miner, he is living with his wife Jane Mary 38 yrs and their 6 children including Albert 14 yrs a scholar, also living with the family is his widowed grandmother Elizabeth Binks 74 yrs.

Military History

Gunner Albert Twells enlisted on 22nd February 1916 at Nottingham, giving his age as 19 yrs and 45 days, he was a coal miner and lived at 116 Minerva Street, Bulwell, posted to the Royal Garrison Artillery, he was killed in action on 28th September 1918 and is buried at Ypres Reservoir Cemetery, Belgium
