Cyril Edmund was born in 1897 in Bulwell and was the son of Edmund a lime burner and Hannah Robinson née Atkinson of 92 Main Street, Bulwell. His father Edmund was born in 1863 in Bulwell, his mother Hannah Atkinson was born in 1862 in Mount Millick, Ireland they were married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have 7 children , sadly one died in infancy, their surviving children all of whom were born in Bulwell were : Horace George b1889, Claude Herbert b1890, Mark b1894, Cyril Edmund b1897, Beatrice Alice May b1898 and Elizabeth Blanche b1901. In the 1911 census the family are living at 92 Main Street, Bulwell, Nottingham and are shown as Edmund 48 yrs a lime burner , he is living with his wife Hannah 49 yrs and their children, Horace George 22 yrs a music dealer and teacher, Claude Herbert 21 yrs a pianoforte tuner and teacher, Mark 17 yrs a butcher, Cyril Edmund 14 yrs working in the cycle trade, Beatrice Alice May 13 yrs a scholar and Elizabeth Blanche 10 yrs a scholar.
Ssergeant Cyril Edmund Robinson, M.S.M., enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 8th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 21st May 1915 , he was captured on the opening day of the German Spring offensive 21st March 1918. He died of wounds in Limburg Germany whilst still in German hands on 7th September 1918. His is buried in Cologne Southern cemetry
In memoriam published 20th March 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- ROBINSON. - Died of wounds, Sept. 7th, 1918, at Limburg Hospital, Germany, Sergt. Cyril Edmund Robinson, 8th K.R.R., late of Raleigh Cycle Company, King-street, after four years' service, aged 22 years. It is the Lord who doth ordain, we bow obedient to His will. - From his sorrowing father and mother, brother Mark, sisters Alice and Lizzie, 92 Main-street, Bulwell. “ROBINSON. - Taken prisoner March 21st, 1918, died of wounds Sept. 7th, 1918, at Limburg, Germany, Sergt. Cyril Edmund Robinson, 8th K..R.R., after four years' service. Greater love hath no man than this. - From his sorrowing brothers George, Claude in Cologne, and sister Betty.”
