Family History

Harold was born in 1892 in Bulwell and was the eldest son of Joseph a coal miner and Selina Pilkington née Richardson of 7 Kett Street Bulwell Nottingham. His father Joseph was born in 1861 in Bulwell an and his mother Selina Richardson was born in 1874 also in Bulwell, they were married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have 8 children , sadly two of whom died in early infancy , their surviving children were : Harodl b1892, William b1895, Walter b1898, Florence b1900, George b1901 and John Pilkington b1909 all were born in Bulwell. In the 1911 census the family are living at 7 Kett Street, Bulwell Nottingham and are shown as Joseph 50 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Selina 37 yrs and their children , Harold 19 yrs a coal miner, William 16 yrs a coal miner, Walter 13 yrs a scholar, Florence 11 yrs a scholar, George 10 yrs a scholar and John 2 yrs.

Military History

Gunner Harold Pilkington enlisted at Bentley (sic) Notts. He served with the 99th Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery he died of wounds at the 47th Casualty Clearing Station France on 12th September 1917 and is buried in Dozinghem Military Cemetery Grave Reference: VII A 6
