William Edward Humphrys was born in 1882 at Mansfield, he married Madaline O’Grady (born 21st May 1879 Willenhall, Staffordshire) in 1902 at Nottingham, they lived at 63 Bannerman Road, Bulwell, Nottingham, they had a son Cyril born 23rd February 1913. In the 1911 census he is living with his wife at 32 Bannerman Road, Bulwell, he is 29 yrs and is a locomotive driver for the Great Eastern railway, he is living with his wife Madaline 32 yrs of age. Commencing 15th July 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 33 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military History

Sapper William Edward Humphrys enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Bulwell, he served with the 96th Light Railway Company, Royal Engineers, he died at sea on 30th December 1917, his name is commemorated on the Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial, Egypt
