Family History

John was born in 1891 in Basford and was the son of Robert a coal miner and Emma Hart née Burnett , 29 Strelley Street, Bulwell. His father Robert was born in 1864 in Basford, his mother Emma Burnett was born in 1857 in Birmingham they were married in 1882 , their marriage being recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have the following children Florence born 1880, William b1883, James b1885 and John b1891, all the children were born in Basford. In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 Fox Grove, Basford and are shown as Robert 47 yrs a coal miner head of the family, he is living with his wife Emma 54 yrs and their two sons James 28 yrs no employment,(it is noted that he was feeble minded from birth) and John 20 yrs a coal miner ganger.

Military History

Private John Hart, enlisted in Nottingham whilst residing I Bulwell , he served in the 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Welbeck Rangers), was killed in action on 1st August 1916 when the battalion made a raid on the German trenches. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
