According to the notice of his death in the local paper, William Ernest was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs W Gadsby, 154(?) Logan Street, Bulwell, and formerly of Vernon Street, Bulwell. He was married to Lilian (Lily).
He died in Bangalore and is buried in Bangalore (Hosur Road) Cemetery (Plot 8. Row T. Grave 19). He qualified for the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 21 October 1918: 'Gadsby. Died abroad October 9th Private WE Gadsby, husband of Lily Gadsby and eldest son of Mr and Mrs W Gadsby, 154(?) Logan Street, Bulwell, late Vernon Street.' His widow, Lilian, was his sole legatee.
