John Thomas Bexton

John Thomas was born in 1882 in Bulwell and was the son of Levi Bexton, a carter and general labourer and Ellen Bexton née Leatherland, of 229, Main St., Bulwell. His father Levi was born in 1862 in Linby his mother Ellen was born in 1863 also in Linby, they were married in the Basford Registration District in 1881 and went on to have 5 children all of whom were born in Linby , they were :- John b1882, Charles b1885, Levi b1886, Alfred b1889 and James b1891. John married his wife Elizabeth Hardy in St Marys church at Bulwell on 23rd May 1904, they went on to have four children all born in Bulwell, they were John b 11/11/05, Sarah Helen b20/04/10, Alfred Louis b20/04/13 and William b20/02/15. In the 1911 census John Thomas is living with his family at 32 Hazel Street, Bulwell and are shown as John 29 yrs head of the family a coal miner he is living with his wife Elizabeth 28 yrs and their 2 children John 5 yrs and Sarah Helen 2 yrs In the same census his parents are living at 239 Main Street, Bulwell and are shown as Levi 49 yrs head of the family a labourer , he is living with his wife Ellen 48 yrs and two of their children, Levi 25 yrs a coal miner and James 20 yrs a coal miner. Following his death his widow was living at 28 Strelly St, Bulwell when she received a letter from the Ministry of Pensions dated 17th May 1918 , informing her she would be receiving a pension of 36 shillings and three pence a week in respect of her and her 4 children with effect from 20th May 1918. His widow later re married and became Elizabeth Owen, of 28, Strelley St., Bulwell, Nottingham.
