Wilfred Arthur Alliss was born in 1898 at Bulwell, he was the son of Henry a draper and his second wife Mary Alice Alliss née Chambers 81 Coventry Road, Bulwell. His father Henry was born in 1856 at Midville, Lincolnshire, his mother Mary Alice Chambers was born in 1870 Salford, Lancashire, they were married on 9th November 1897 at St John’s church, Bulwell they had 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family were living at 81 Coventry Road Bulwell, Henry 52 yrs is a draper, he is living with his wife Mar Alice 42 yrs and their children, Minnie 24 yrs a dress maker, Wilfred Arthur 13 yrs a scholar, Nora Mary 11 yrs and Dorothy Louisa 8 yrs of age

Military History

Private Wilfred Arthur Alliss enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Bulwell, he served wit the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action, 11th April 1918, aged 20, whilst his battalion was in divisional reserve at West Farm Camp, Belgium, his name is commemorated Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
