Family History

John Pearson Jackson was born in 1881 at Goathald, Yorkshire and was the son of William a general labourer and his second wife Mary Jane Jackson née Pearson. His father William was born in 1833 at Egton, Yorkshire, he married his first wife Jane Rusell (1847-1878) following which he remarried his second wife Mary Jane Pearson (born 1856) on 17th December 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Whitby registration district, they went on to have the following children, Mary b1879 Grosmont, Yorkshire, John Pearson b1881 Goathland, Yorkshire and Sarah Ann Bridgett b2883 Easington, Yorkshire. In the 1911 census John Pearson has left the family home, he is living at Upsall, Gusiborough, Yorkshire, he is shown as being 30 yrs a general farm worker and is living with David Thomas 46 yrs a farmer and his family. By the time of his enlisted he is living at Epperstone He married his wife Hilda born 3rd August 1885 and they lived at Epperstone village, they went on to have a daughter Kathleen Mary born 13th November 1916 , she died on 3rd August 1917. Following his death his widow Hilda was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence on 26th March 1917 which was reduce by 5 shillings on the death of her daughter.

Military History

Private John Pearson Jackson enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Epperstone and served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 1st August 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.

CWGC - He was the son of Mrs. Coverdale (formerly Jackson) of Pickering Yorkshire and the husband of Hilda Jackson of Epperstone.
