John Amyan Ludford Champneys was born on 19th April 1899 and baptised at Lympne, Kent on 28th May 1899 and was the son of Edward Hugh Stanley Champneys and his wife Magdalen Champneys née Mason. His father Edward Hugh Stanley Champney was born in 1861 at Epperstone, Nottinghamshire and married his wife Magdalen Alice Mason in 1891 at Skelton, Lancashire, they went on to have 7 children all of whom were born in Kent. John was a pupil at Bloxham School, Banbury, Oxon between 1914-1915.Will administration left to Edward Hugh Stanley Champneys

Military History

Served with 73rd Sqdn., Royal Air Force. Was commissioned as a 2nd Lt in the RFC in December 1917 and gained his wings April 1918.Killed in action in a flying accident in Northern France on the 17th June 1918He is buried in Marissell French National Cemetery Oise France
