Robert Scott Wright

Robert Scott Wright was born in 1885 at Hucknall and was the son of John a coal miner hewer and the late Mary Wright née Scott of Malthouse Yard, Newton near Alfreton. His father John was born in 1848 at Abbotts Bromley, Staffordshire, his mother Mary Scott was born in 1847 at Codnor she died in 1904 aged 58 yrs, they were married on 16th August 1870 at Staveley parish church and went on to have the following children, Charlotte Jane b1872 Chesterfield, John b1875 Chesterfield, Emma b1879 Rugeley, Ada b1881 Newstead, Robert Scott b1885 Hucknall and Henry b1887 Hucknall. In the 1911 census the family are living at Malthouse Yard, Newton near Alfreton and are shown as John 63 yrs a widow and coal miner, he is living with his children, Charlotte Jane 39 yrs single no occupation listed and Henry 24 yrs single a colliery labourer above ground. Robert Scott had enlisted into the Army prior to 1911 and on the 1911 census he is shown living at Wellington Barracks in London, he is shown as being 27 yrs married a private in the 3rd battalion Grenadier Guards. Robert Scott Wright married his wife Mary Frances Rowley (born 1st December 1882) on 29th August 1909 at All Saints Church, Battersea, London, they went on to have the following children, Sidney William born 9th June 1912 and John Scott born 15th August 1914, his widow later lived at 145 Beaufoy Road Queen's Road Battersea London. Following his death his widow Mary Frances was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 6 pence a week which commence on 8th November 1915.
