Family History

Thomas Watson was born in 1890 in Old Basford Nottingham and was the son of Thomas and Phoebe Elizabeth Watson née Padmore. His parents were married on 29th April 1878 in Bulwell. He married his wife Nellie Ginnever in 1910 in Nottingham and they had a son Wilfred Watson born 28th July 1910 and daughter Eveline born 25th July 1914. In the 1911 census they lived at 23 Westgate Old Basford Nottingham and were shown on the same as being Thomas 21 yrs a pawnbrokers assistant, he is living with his wife Nellie Beatrice 21 yrs and their son Wilfred 8 months. His widow was awarded a pension of 25 shillings and 5 pence a week commencing 30th December 1918, she emigrated to Canada post-war.

Military History

Private Thomas Watson enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters. He died of wounds on 7th April 1918 while a prisoner of war. He is buried in Mons (Bergen) Communal Cemetery, Belgium, grave reference VII.D.3
