Edwin Jebbett (junior) was born in 1898 at Basford and was the son of Edwin (senior) a coal miner and Elizabeth Jebbett née Pacey of 64 Wallis Avenue, Basford His father Edwin Jebbett (senior) was born in 1860 at Basford and his mother Elizabeth Pacey was born in 1864 at Lenton they were married in Nottingham in 1883 and went on to have the following children, Henry b1887, Ethel b1889, Matthias B1893, Jenny B1895, Edwin B1898, Willie B1901 and Nelly Jebbett B1904 all were born at Basford. In the 1911 census they lived at 5 Marlow Avenue Whitemoor Road Old Basford Nottingham and were shown as Edwin 61 yrs a coal miner he is living with his wife Elizabeth 47 yrs and their children, Harry24 yrs a coal miner, Ethel 22 yrs a tobacco packer, Matthias 18 yrs a bleacher, Jenny 16 yrs a cardboard box maker, Edwin 13 yrs an errand boy Willie 10 yrs a scholar and Nelly 7 yrs a scholar.
Private Edwin Jebbett enlisted at Nottingham on 4th September 1914, he gave his age as 18 yrs and 145 days, he stated he was a coal miner, (clipper on) he joined his unit 9th Cavalry Reserve at Scarborough on 6th September 1914. He was transferred to the Royal Fusiliers on 2nd June 1915 and then to the Machine Gun Corps on 28th July 1916. He embarked from Folkstone on 6th August 1916 disembarking the following day at Boulogne. He was killed in action on 9th October 1917 and is buried at Tyne Cot Cemetery Grave Reference: XIV C 9
