Ernest William was born in 1884 in Nottingham and was the son of William a labourer and Annie Weston née Draper of 3 Forest Square, Forest Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. In the 1911 census he is shown as being 26 yrs single , a polisher and is boarding at 14 Ashwell Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham with William Spencer 50 yrs a labourer and his wife Louisa Spencer 46 yrs and their children including his future wife Florence May Spencer 21 yrs born Nottingham and an electric light globe maker. He marries his wife Florence May Spencer (born 30th October 1890) in 1911 in Nottingham she lived at 14, Ashwell St., Hyson Green, Nottingham and they went on to have a son Harold Ernest born 22nd February 1913. Following his death his widow Florence May was awarded a pension of 15 shillings a week which commenced on 24th April 1915.
Private Ernest Weston, 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He landed in France on 10th August 1914, he was killed in action 26th August 1914. He has no known grave, his name is commemorated on La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial.
In memoriam published 19th February 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “WESTON. - Reported missing August 26th, 1914, now officially reported dead, Pte. E. Weston, 2nd K.O.Y.L.I., beloved husband of [Florence] Mary Ann Poole, of 28, Wilton-terrace, Wallis-street. Did his duty. - Wife and children.” In memoriam published 26th August 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- WESTON. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Private E. Weston (Ranji), 14, Ashwell-street, who was killed in action August 26th, 1914.
