Frederick William Saxton was born in 1884 at Nottingham and was the son of Henry a cabinet maker and Mary Ellen Saxton née Brown, of Nottingham. His father Henry was born in 1858 at Sneinton, his mother Mary Ellen Brown was born in 1863 at Market Overton, Rutland, they were married on 31st July 1881 and had a further son William Henry born 1882 Nottingham. Fred married his wife Ada Buxton born 7th September 1886, in 1912 at Nottingham, they lived at 150 Allington Avenue, Park Road, Lenton. Following his death his widow Ada was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 20th January 1919. His probate proven on 25th July 1919 at Nottingham shows him as Fred Saxton of 150 Allington Avenue, Park Road, Lenton a Private in H.M. Army died on or since 22nd March 1918 in France, his effects of £121, 12 shillings and 6 pence were left to Ada Saxton, widow.
Private Fred Saxton enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number M/321280 iin the Army Service Corps. He was serving with the 7th battalion Bedfordshire Regiment when he was killed in action having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France.
