Family History

He was the son of Joseph and Emma Ibbett and the brother of Florence, Annie, John, Arthur, Beatrice, Willie and Nellie Ibbett. In 1911 they lived at Dowsby Fen, Bourne, Lincolnshire. Joseph and Emma later moved to 22 Gordon Road, Carlton Road, Nottingham.

Military History

A draft of men joined the battalion on 25 October 1915 which is consistent with Joseph's date of entry. He was killed during the Battle of Thiepval and buried close to where he fell. After the armistice his remains were reinterred in Cerisy- Gailly Military Cemetery which sits next to the river Somme. Plot III in the cemetery has a number of graves which were cleared from the Thiepval area. He is in grave III. F. 4. John Morse

Nottingham Post obituary (abridged), 21 October 1916: 'Ibbett. Killed in action September 26th, Corporal (sic) T Ibbett, Sherwood Foresters, age 23.' Named on a memorial in the parish church of St Peter, Ingoldsby Road, Lenton, Lincolnshire (WMA 20552).
