Henry Deacon

Henry Deacon was born in 1884 at Basford and was the son of John a lace maker and Ann Deacon néé Martin of 175 Burford Road, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1851 at Loughborough, his mother Ann Martin was born in 1850 at Bulwell, they were married in 1869 their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham registration district, they went on to have 12 children sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, their children were all born in Basford and were , Alfred b1870, Harriett b1873, John b1875, Elizabeth b1877, Ellen b1881, Florrie b1882, Harry b1884, Charles b1885, Gertrude b1888, William b1891 and Frederick b1893. Henry married his wife Elizabeth Gay in 1904 in Nottingham, they lived at 13 Oldknow Street, Hyson Green. They had the following children Frederick Henry born 12th May 1905, Gertrude born 10th February 1907, Elsie born 17th April 1909 and Harry born 12th November 1912. In the 1911 census Henry and his family were living at 7 Vincent Terrace, Randall Street, Hyson Green and were shown as Henry 27 yrs a brewers labourer he is living with his wife Elizabeth 28 yrs a lace mender, and their children, Fred 5 yrs, Gertrude 4 yrs and Elsie 1 year of age. In the 1911 census his parents are living at 175 Burford Road, Nottingham and are shown as John 61 yrs a lace maker, he is living with his wife Ann 62 yrs and their children, Gertrude 22 yrs a lace mender, William 20 yrs a hosiery trimmer and Frederick 18 yrs a hosiery trimmer. Following Henry's death his widow Elizabeth was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 6 pence a week which commenced on 5th February 1917. His widow re married in 1918 to Henry Graham.
