Family History

Arthur was born in 1893 he was the son of Joseph a lace maker and Jane Elizabeth Binns née Brown of 19 Fisher Street, and the brother of Walter, Harry, Joe, Herbert and Albert Binns. Joseph was born in 1870 at Radford, Jane Elizabeth Brown was born in 1874 Carrington they were married on 17th October 1891 at Radford, they had 6 children. In 1911 the family lived at 19 Fisher Street Nottingham Joseph 38 yrs is a lace maker, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 37 yrs and their 6 children including Arthur 18 yrs a threader

Military History

Private Arthur Binns, enlisted in Nottingham on 11th May 1912 and served with the 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment (Robin Hood Rifles). He landed in France on 28th February 1915 and was killed in action on 31st July 1915 during a German attack near Sanctuary Wood, Belgium. He is buried in Sanctuary Wood Cemetery.

In memoriam published 31th July 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “BINNS. – In loving memory of Private Arthur Binns, killed in action, July 31st, 1915. Never forgotten. – Mother, father, brothers. “BINNS. – In loving memory of Private A. Binns, killed in action July 31st, 1915.
