Family History

Albert Swanwick was born in 1887 at Cinderhill and was the only son of Henry a coal miner and Eliza Swanwick née Sweeting of 2,Holden Square, Cinderhill, Nottingham. His father Henry was born in 1862 at Wingerworth, Derbyshire and his mother Eliza Sweeting was born in 1862 at Cinderhill. they were married in 1884 at Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 2 Holden Cottages, Cinderhill, Nottingham and are shown as Henry 49 yrs a colliery tram repair man, he is living with his wife Eliza 49 yrs and their son Albert 24 yrs a colliery labourer. Alberts probate was proven on 22nd January 1919 at Nottingham, and shows him as Albert Swanwick 2 Holden Square, Cinderhill, Private HM Army died 23rd November 1918 at Skegness, his effects of £171, 7 shillings and 5 pence went to Eliza wife of Henry Swanwick.

Military History

Private Albert Swanwick enlisted on 10th December 1915 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 28 yrs and 11 months and his address as 2 Holden Cottages, Cinderhill, Nottingham, he gave his occupation as colliery banksman his next of kin was his father Henry of the same address. He was posted to the reserves, given a medical examination on 17th May 1918 at Nottingham prior to his mobilisation on 24th June 1918. He was posted to the 4th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment and died at the Winthorpe Voluntary Aid Detachment Hospital, Skegness on 23rd November 1918. He is buried at Nottingham Northern Cemetery G.15.1
