Family History

Noel was born in 1889 in Kimberley and was the son of Elijah a colliery pit deputy and Ann Bradley née Hooley, they lived at 4 Foundry Row, Cinderhill, Nottingham. His father Elijah was born in Kimberley in 1852 and his mother Ann Hooley had been born in Wollaton in 1853, they were married in 1871 , their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district. They have a very large family of 12 children , sadly 5 of the children were to die in infancy or childhood, their surviving children were :- Elijah b1880 Kimberley, Emma b1884 Kimberly, Walter b1887 Kimberley, Noel b1889 Kimberley, Matilda b1891 Nottingham, John b1893 Nottingham and James b1895 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family were living at 4 Foundry Row, Cinderhill, Nottingham , they were shown as Elijah 59 yrs head of the family a colliery deputy, he is living with his wife Ann 58 yrs and their three children , Noel 22 yrs single a hewer (coal miner), John 18 yrs single a hewer (coal miner) and James 16 yrs a clipper, below ground (coal miner).

Military History

Gunner Noel Bradley enlisted in Nottingham , he served with the Royal Field Artillery, he first entered a theatre of war in the Balkans on 25th August 1915. He was taken as a prisoner of war at the surrender of Kut, he died as a prisoner of war and is buried in Bagdad (North Gate) War Cemetery Nisibin Mem 224
