Family History

Moses Arnold was born at West Stockwith in 1898, the son of William Charles a farmer and Mary Jackson (nee Lathem) his mother had been previously married and was Mary Harris at this time, she had 3 children Ruth Lathem Harris born 1881 and Sarah Ellen Harris born 1885 and Ruby Harris born 1888 with her first husband. She then went on to have a further 5 children with Wiliam including Moses born 1898 John born 1889,Herbert born 1891 and Tom born 1895. In the 1911 census the family are living at Autsery View, Main Street, West Stockwith Moses is 12 years of age and a scholar.

Military History

He enlisted at East Retford and originally served with the Leicestershire regiment with the service number 49249 and then transferred into the 1st battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment, he was killed in action and is buried in the Peronne, Commual Cemetery, Somme France
