Robert was born at West Stockwith in 1893, the son of Charles Hackett a canal boatman by trade and Mary Elizabeth Hackett (nee Hewitt).He had 5 siblings :- Herbert born 1892,Nellie born 1895,John born 1898,William born 1902 and Edith born 1904. In the 1911 census he is shown as being 17 years of age, single and a canal boatman living with his family on Canal Lane, West Stockwith. After his death his parents Charles and Mary lived at 202.Brookhill , Sheffield

Military History

He enlisted in East Retford and served with the 73rd battery, 5th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery and was wounded and subsequently died of these wounds. He is buried at La Chapelette British and Indian Cemetery, Peronne, France
