Family History

Joseph was born in 1883 the son of John a horseman on a farm and Mary Ann Roberts (née Taylor) of Misterton. His father John was born in 1859 at Misterton and his mother Mary A Taylor was born in 1857 at Tealby, Lincolnshire. they had a further child a daughter Fanny born in 1887. In the 1911 census his widowed father is living at Misterton, he is shown as being John Roberts 52 yrs a widow and a horseman he is living with his single daughter Fanny 24 yrs housekeeper and 2 grandchildren, Leonard 8 yrs and Ivy 2 years of age. Joseph Richard married Sarah Agnes Jacklin who was born 24th July 1889 in Winterton Lincolnshire at Lincoln in 1915. They went on to have a son Colin Jacklin born 13th April 1916, they lived at 14 Leivers Lane Winterton, Doncaster. Following his death his widow Sarah was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week commencing 2nd June 1919.

Military History

Acting Sergeant Joseph Richard RobertS enlisted at Gainsborough, he initially served with the service number 4573 in the Coldstream Guards Regiment. He transferred to the Corps of Military Police and died on 27th November 1918 of influenza shortly after the armistice He is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery Grave Reference: LI C 2
