Military History

Edward Robinson served first in the 2nd Battalion and entered theatre (France) on 17 March 1915. At some point he joined the 9th Battalion. After the battles of the Somme - July to November 1916, the battalion occupied the front line near Hamel at St Pierre Divion. The battalion had been in the front line since 17 December and on 19th, at 8 pm, 'A' company moved into the front line whilst 'B' company to the Hansa Line. It is likely that during this period Edward was killed. His body was probably buried near the trenches and re-interred in Hamel.
