Family History

Arthur Edward was born in 1876 and was the son of Charlotte Chamberlain. (CWGC) He married Lydia Cottrell (born 2nd November 1874) in 1912; their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district. She brought a child Ambrose Edward Cottrell born 1898 at Aylesham Norfolk to the marriage. They lived at 2 Harriett Street, Stapleford and went on to have a daughter Alice Lydia born 12th August 1913. Commencing 25th November 1918 Lydia was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military History

Arthur Edward Webster served as Private Arthur Edward Chamberlain, he enlisted at Stanton whilst residing at Stapleford. He was killed in action on 21st March 1918 and his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.

Extra Information

His stepson Ambrose Edward Cotterell served with the service number g/22445 in the 7th battalion The Buffs, he enlisted in Norwich whilst residing at Reepham, he was killed in action on 2nd October 1918 and his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois memorial, France. His pension record card shows his next of kin as his grandmother Maria Cottrell living at Harolds Grove, Reepham, Norfolk.
