Ernest Tunnicliffe was born in 1885 the son of John a lace maker and Annie Tunnicliffe née Emblow of 48 Halls Street, Stapleford. John was born in 1867 at Nottingham, Annie Emblow was born in 1868 at Nottingham, married in 1885 at Nottingham, they had children, Ethel b1890, Albert b1892, William b1897 and Phoebe b1901 all were born in Nottingham. Ernest married Ruth Harding (born 6th June 1885 ) in 1907 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district, they lived at 53 Horace Avenue, Stapleford, they had the following children, Harold 24th January 1908, Mary 22nd August 1915 and Nellie 28th September 1917. In 1911 the family are living at 9 Chapel Street, Stapleford, Ernest 25 yrs is working as a blast furnace labourer and is living with his wife 25 yrs and their children, Harold 3 yrs and George ( died in 1913 aged 2 yrs)

Military History

Private Ernest Tunnicliff enlisted at Leeds, he was killed in action on 13th October 1918 and is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois, Memorial.
