Charles Scholes (junior) was born in 1899 the son of Charles Scholes (senior) a foundry labourer and Sarah Ann Scholes née Atkin of 1 The Roach, Stapleford and the brother of Edith, Frederick and Alfred Scholes. Charles Scholes (senior) was born in 1870 at Bolton, Sarah Ann Atkin was born in 1876 Whittington, Lancashire, married in 1894 at Sheffield. In 1911 they lived at 25 Church Street and later at 1 The Roach (both Stapleford Nottinghamshire).

Military History

Private Charles Scholes enlisted at Ilkeston on 26th June 1914 giving his age as 17 yrs he was a miner he served with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment however was discharged from the Army on 7th August 1914 being medically unfit to serve. He enlisted or was called up after war was declared and was killed in action on 8th April 1918, he is buried at Aix-Noulette Communal Cemetery Extension, France. Plot 2. Row E. Grave 22.
