John Enoch Repton was born in 1897 the son of William an iron pipe moulder and Florence Ada Repton née Hurt of Royston House, William Road, Stapleford. William was born in 1870 at Stanton by Dale, Florence Ada Hurt was born in 1871 also at Stanton by Dale, married in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district, they had the following children, Gwendoline Charlotte b1896 Stanton, John Enoch b1897 Stanton, their remaining children were all born in Stapleford Constance Russen b1890, Florence Irene b1902, Charles William b1903, Frank b1909, Rita b1911 and George Ivan b1913. In 1911 the family were living at 4 William Road, Stapleford.

Military History

Lance Corporal John Enoch Repton enlisted on 7th November 1914 at Ilkeston, giving his age as 18 yrs,(he was actually 17 yrs being born in 1897) his next of kin was his father William. Landing in France on 26th February 1917 he was promoted to Lance Corporal on 17th May 1917. He was killed in action on 26th September 1917 his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Panel 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A.
