George was born in 1872 at Hallam Fields the son of Amos a night watchman and Mary Pickett of 26 Moseley Street, New Basford. He married Sarah Ann Leivers a widow whom he married on 15th January 1907 at Basford, Nottingham. She had two children from her first marriage Thomas William Leivers b1895 Eastwood and Essie Hilda Leivers b1898 Eastwood. In 1911 the family are living at 15 Balfour Road, Stapleford and are shown as George Edwin Pickett 39 yrs a platelayer at Stanton Iron Works, living with his wife Sarah Ann Pickett and his two step children, Thomas William Leiverss and Essie Hilda Leivers
Private George Edwin Pickett enlisted at Nottingham on 5th September 1914, giving his age as 43 yrs and 127 days, his occupation as a furnaceman in the Iron trade and that his religion was church of England, his next of kin was his wife Sarah Ann Pickett of 2 Bailey Street, Stapleford. He had seen previous military service in the 2nd battalion Royal Scots Regiment from which he had been discharged on 5th December 1904. Posted to the 3rd battalion Royal Scots Regiment, on 3rd January 1915 and subsequently to the 2nd battalion and landed in France on that day. On 19th November 1916 he was admitted to No 9 General Hospital at Rouen suffering with a gun shot wound to his left side, he was treated at the hospital but died from his wounds on 24th November 1916. He is buried in St Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, grave reference O III Q 7
