Harold was born in Bedford in 1895 and baptised on 30th July 1895 and was the second eldest son of John a locomotive fireman and Margaret E Jackson. They had nine children. The family moved from Bedford and in 1911 were living a 36 Horace Ave, Stapleford, Nottingham.
Harold E James Jackson was with the battalion on Gallipoli and from January 1916, Egypt. He then served on the Somme before the unit moved up to Belgium in early 1917. In July 1917 they held an extended line prior to the Third Battle of Ypres and in 14 days sustained over 100 casualties. They also took part in a large raid on Canadian Trench and support trenches, which was a complete success with enemy killed and dugouts wrecked. It cost one officer and 10 other rank casualties and it is likely Harold was one of these men. He was taken to Lijssenthoek but died of his wounds. He is buried in grave XVI. I. 18A. The inscription has 'Gone but not forgotten, From his loving wife and daughter'
