Family History

Edmund Arthur Hallam was born in 1898 the son of George an iron worker and Harriet Hallam née Wilkins of 109 Frederick Street, Stapleford. George was born in 1863 at Stapleford, Harriett Wilkins was born in 1868 at Netherton, Staffordshire, married in 1882 (recorded in the Basford registration district) and had the following children, George b1890, Lizzie b1892, Lily b1894, Harry b1897 and Edmund b1898 . In 1911 the family lived at 109 Frederick Road Stapleford Nottinghamshire and were shown as George 48 yrs an iron worker, Harriett 46 yrs and Edmund 12 yrs of age.

Military History

Private Edmund Arthur Hallam enlisted on 9th June 1915 at Ilkeston, giving the false age of 19 yrs and 2 months (he was born in 1898) he stated he was a labourer, he landed in France on 5th December 1915. He was killed in action on 30th November 1917 and his name is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial.
