Family History

Frederick Furmidge was born in 1883 and was the son of the late John an iron foundry labourer and Sarah Jane Furmidge née Betts and the brother of James and Alice Furmidge. John Furmidge was born in 1847 at Redmile Leicestershire, he died in 1893 aged 47 yrs , Sarah Jane Betts was born in 1852 at Mansfield , married on 21st November 1870 at Swinstead, Lincolnshire. In 1911 they lived at New Stapleford Nottinghamshire.

Military History

Private Frederick Furmidge enlisted at Derby, he initially served with the service number 44685 in the North Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 12th October 1916 whilst serving with the 2nd battalion Lancashire Fusiliers his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
