Cyril Brian was born in 1899 and was the eldest son of John an iron moulder and Elizabeth Brian née Watson of 38 Brookhill Street, Stapleford. John was born in 1870 at Manchester, Elizabeth Watson was born in 1870 at Cambridge, they were married on 23rd June 1895 at Lenton parish church, Nottingham, they went on to have the following children, Cyril b1899, Albert b1901, Harold b1904, Archie b1907 and Leslie Brian b1909 all were born in Stapleford. In 1911 the family lived at 19 Balfour Road Stapleford Nottinghamshire John Brian 41 yrs an iron moulder, Elizabeth 41yrs and their children, Cyril 12 yrs a scholar, Albert 10 yrs a scholar, Harold 7 yrs, Archie 4 yrs and Lesley 2 yrs old.

Military History

Private Cyril Brian enlisted at Ilkeston whilst residing at Stapleford, he initially served with the service number 85214 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was serving with the 2/5th battalion The Prince of Wales's (North Staffordshire Regiment when he was killed in action on 24th September 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
