Family History

George Frederick Atkin was born in 1887 the son of Mary Elizabeth Atkin of Sandiacre. Mary Elizabeth Atkin was born in 1868 at Sandiacre. In 1890, she married Arthur Starbuck in the Shardlow Registration District. They had two further children - Florence May Starbuck b1893 and Ada Starbuck b1898, both were born at Stapleford. On the 1911 Census, George's parents were living at 2, The Roach, Stapleford. Arthur was a labourer's filler, Florence May a motor seat maker and Ada a scholar. George Frederick married Ada Morris (born 1892 Ilkeston) in 1910 in the Basford Registration District. They lived at 2, Church Street, Stapleford and had 3 children - George Frederick born September 1910, Thomas born June 1912 and Doris born July 1914. In 1911, they lived at 7, Nottingham Road, Stapleford. With effect from 31/1/1916, Ada received a weekly pension of 20/6d.

Military History

George Frederick Atkin died on 24th May 1915 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres, Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium.
