Sydney Gibson was born in 1884 at Terrington, Yorkshire and was the son of John and Ann Gibson née Allsion His father John was born in 1840 at Gilling, Yorkshire he died in 1915,his mother Ann Allison was born in 1845 at Rillington, Yorkshire she died in 1890 at Caunton, they were married on 20th December 1864 at Terrington and went on to have the following children, Sophia b1867, John b1870, Eliza b1871, Agnes b1874, Rose b1875, Gertrude b1878, Robert b1879 Allison b1880 Sidney b1884 and Gladys b1887 all were born in Terrington. In the 1911 census he is living at 54, Neale Street, Clowne, Derbyshire he is shown as being 27 yrs single and a market gardener, he is living at the address with his brother Robert 30 yrs also a market gardener, they are boarders living with Joseph Taylor 38 yrs a coal miner and his family.

Military History

Private Sydney Gibson enlisted at Newark, he served with the 2/5th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He landed in France on 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, during the German attack on the British line near Noreuil/Ervillers, France. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.Bay 7.
