Family History

George William Andrew was born in 1896 at Bleasby and was the son of the late William, a famer, and Harriet Andrew née Tansey of Bleasby. His father William was born in 1873 at Bleasby and died in 1904 aged 32 yrs, his mother Harriett Tansey was born in 1869 at Somercotes, Derbyshire, they were married in 1895 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration district, they had a futher child a daughter Eva born 1897 His mother Harriett went on to re marry Joseph Guy a farmer whom she married in 1910 the marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration district. In the 1911 census the family are living at Bleasby village and are shown as Joseph Guy 38 yrs a farmer , he is living with his wife Harriett Guy 42 yrs and his stepchildren, George William 15 yrs a farm worker, and Eva 14 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private George William Andrew attested at Nottingham 17th November 1915 he gave his age as 20 yrs and 2 months, his address was Bleasby village and his next of kin was his mother Harriett Guy of the same address, he stated he was a cowman on a farm. He was posted to the reserves the following day and mobilised for war on 23rd May 1918 at Nottingham, reporting at the Derby depot on 25th May 1918. He was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and he embarked from Dover on 22nd September 1918 landing in Calais. He was posted to the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters on 26th September 1918 and was killed in action on 8th October 1918, whilst serving in the line near Bohain, France. He is buried at Brancourt-Le-Grande Military Cemetery, Aisne, France.
