George Edmund Nix was born in 1885 the son of Edmund, a bobbin and carriage worker, and Elizabeth Ann Nix (née Burton). His parents were born at Radford, Edmund in 1859, Ann in 1864. Married in 1882, they had ten children, seven surviving infancy - George Edmund b.1885, Thirza b.1888, Maud b.1891, Emma b.1893, Gladys b.1896, Lucy Ann b.1900 and Horace b.1910. In 1911, they lived at 88, Miall Street, Radford. Emma was a net packer. George Edmund married Sarah Ann Blount in 1907 and in 1911 they lived at 16, Schooner Street, Nottingham with their daughter Dorothy who had been born in 1908. Theresa Nix, George’s sister lived with them. Sarah Ann later lived at 35, Grimston Street, Radford Boulevard, Nottingham.
Shoeing Smith Corporal George Edmund Nix, enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/1st South Notts. Hussars, he was killed in action 28th November 1917. He is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery.
